Mechanical Design Engineer

In this role you will work in a variety of high-performance projects across several industry sectors, having the opportunity to develop vehicle systems, taking ownership of the designs and other technical documents within the Design Office.

This is a fast-paced environment and to succeed in this role you must be adaptable, demonstrate initiative along with the ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. Also, attention to detail and strong skills in problem-solving are key factors.

Responsibilities

- Responsible for the development and validation of Structural and Fatigue Analysis of MPC’s vehicle development programmes
- Performing FEA supporting vehicle development projects from concept to detailing and prototyping. The role covers maintaining, analysing, and reporting on vehicle components and sub-system models
- Design Sizing Analysis: Sub system load analysis; Joints and interface design; Materials selection; Fixing selection justification with appropriate bolt calculations
- Responsible to identify, develop and validate methodologies for the testing of composite and metallic materials for static and dynamic properties
- Responsible to deploy the methodology across all internal and external resources involved in the engineering process. This is to be achieved through authoring test specifications, training of resources, auditing and general work collaboration
- Responsible to generate and maintain material data base
- Simulation; material modelling and crash simulation of composite sandwich structures
- Dynamic/ Crash Modelling Dynamic
- Responsible to generate material cards to support linear and non-linear simulations
- Develop a high level of understanding of the other factors influencing FEA methodology and performance: HPC hardware, software, numerical or empirical methods, correlation etc
- Investigate and benchmark new and alternative tools/ technologies and cost reduction opportunities, liaising with software vendors
- Support Design team in product design and development activities, continually improving the modelling and analysis techniques
- Take an active role in growing the Design department at MPC

 

Qualifications and Experience

- Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or similar
- Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive product development
- Experienced in an OEM or Tier1 with a robust Structural & Fatigue analysis technical knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modelling and expertise in one or more of the following: FEA solver development, FEA process automation or FEA applications
- Robust knowledge of Stress-Life, Strain-Life and Vibrational Fatigue simulation techniques
- Good knowledge of Composite and Aluminium Structures and materials
- Knowledge and experience with Altair Hyperworks/ Optistruct is preferred
- Good knowledge of validation, verification and testing process
- Strong communication of simulation results via comprehensive and intelligible simulation reports.
- Support presentation of concepts and design status to client project teams, client senior management, project suppliers and internally
